Marriott Bonvoy

19 active alerts →Guide →Last reviewed Sep 2026

Marriott Bonvoy is the loyalty program for one of the largest hotel portfolios on the planet - 30+ brands, more than 8,500 properties, everything from a Fairfield off the interstate to a St. Regis with a butler. The catch: Marriott dropped the fixed award chart back in 2022, so per night point costs are dynamic and move with demand and cash rates. Translation: the sweet spot hunt is alive and well, but it lives at the search bar, not the chart.

Where Bonvoy quietly punches above its weight is the Free Night Award. Most actively-issued co-brand cards issue at least one cert per year with caps from 35K up to 85K points, and as of March 2026 you can top off any cert with up to 25K Bonvoy points to reach a higher property tier - which means a 35K cert effectively books up to 60K, a 50K cert up to 75K, and an 85K cert up to 110K. The 5th-night-free benefit on award-points stays is also automatic, requires no elite status, and stacks across longer reservations. If you can stomach the dynamic pricing dance, there is still a lot of value here.

Award chart

The actual numbers. Get your nerd on, memorize the cheap ones.

The cheat sheet.

See the rates →

Marriott Bonvoy has not published a fixed award chart since 2022. Point prices are dynamic. Every property sets its own nightly award cost, and that cost moves with cash rates, so the same room can be one number today and a different number next month. There are no off peak, standard, or peak tiers, and there is no Category 1 to 8 grid to price against. The only way to know what a night costs is to search your actual dates on Marriott's site.

Because there is no chart, the Free Night Award (FNA) caps are the closest thing to usable bands. An FNA books any property whose nightly award price sits at or below the cap, so the cap is the ceiling you are working with. As of 2026 you can also top off any FNA with up to 25,000 points to reach a pricier property.

Active FNA caps (currently issued Bonvoy cards, 2026):

FNA cap Cards
35,000 pts Most Chase and Amex Bonvoy products (Boundless, basic Amex, Business cards)
50,000 pts Bonvoy Bevy (Amex)
85,000 pts Bonvoy Brilliant (Amex)

Renewal versus spend bonus mechanics vary by card; details on each card page when authored.

Legacy FNA caps (cards no longer issued to new applicants): 20K (basic Marriott Bonvoy Chase, spend bonus), 25K (Marriott Bonvoy Premier Chase, anniversary), 85K (Ritz-Carlton Chase, anniversary).

All Inclusive resorts. These price dynamically too. The cost varies by resort, room, length of stay, and time of year, and Marriott updates it continuously, so any number you have seen is an example, not a rate. Entry level all inclusive nights have been observed around 15,000 to 30,000 points, with luxury resorts pricing much higher, so always check the live price for your dates. The fifth night free benefit does apply on award stays at All Inclusive resorts, and resort fees may still apply.

Whatever the source, always confirm the actual nightly cost for your dates before assuming a redemption is in reach.

Sweet spots

Where your points punch above their weight.

Where this currency genuinely shines.

Show me the picks →
  • Lower demand dates and destinations stretch your points furthest. Properties in Southeast Asia, India, and quieter US markets often price well below the program average on slower dates, since Marriott's dynamic pricing tracks demand. Search a few date ranges and you will see the same room swing by thousands of points.

  • Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa, Dubai - all-inclusive luxury runs roughly 100K-120K points/night against $2,500+ cash rates. Among the higher-redemption-value plays in the portfolio.

  • All Inclusive resorts price dynamically, so there is no fixed starting rate. Recent redemptions have run around 56,000 points a night at Royalton Negril in Jamaica and around 69,000 at the Westin Reserva Conchal in Costa Rica, food, drinks, and activities included. Treat those as examples and confirm your own dates.

  • Top off your FNA before booking - a 35K Boundless cert + 25K points top-off gets you a 60K property; a 50K Bevy cert + 25K reaches 75K; an 85K Brilliant cert + 25K reaches 110K. As of March 2026's cap increase, this expanded eligibility to roughly 733 additional properties (~8% of the portfolio).

  • Heads up - devaluation territory: Cat 4-6 bands have seen the most price creep across 2024-2026. Top-end Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties (e.g. Nujuma) now price up to ~327K/night; some North Island-tier outliers up to ~605K. Bonvoy is a below-average-value hotel currency on the whole, so sweet spots beat the average; do not assume cash rates make all redemptions winners.

  • Stack two airline elite statuses at Titanium / Ambassador: United Silver AND Aeroplan 25K. Bonvoy's RewardsPlus partnership with United auto-grants Premier Silver once accounts are linked. A separate Aeroplan partnership adds Aeroplan 25K (manual one-time registration at Marriott's portal), valid 12+ months and renews automatically while Titanium/Ambassador is maintained. Two airline elite tiers from one hotel tier, both with Star Alliance Silver privileges (priority check-in, priority security, extra baggage on many partners). One of the best status-stacking plays in hotel loyalty.

  • Stay five award nights, pay for four. Book five award nights on one reservation, using Standard or PointSavers awards, and Marriott makes the lowest priced night free. Already staying four nights? Check whether a fifth one changes the math in your favor.

Lounge access

Club lounges and breakfast: who gets in.

Who gets in, who doesn't, and the carve-outs.

See the rules →

Marriott Bonvoy lounge access is tier-gated, not airline-style alliance access. Platinum Elite and above receive complimentary access to Executive / Concierge / Club lounges at participating brands - typically Marriott (full-service), JW Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien, Renaissance, Delta Hotels, Autograph Collection (varies by property), and most Luxury Collection / St. Regis properties (where lounges exist). Limited-service brands (Courtyard, Fairfield, SpringHill, etc.) do not have lounges, so Platinum-and-above receive a daily F&B credit instead at most North American properties.

Lounge benefits typically include:

  • Continental breakfast
  • All-day non-alcoholic beverages and snacks
  • Evening hors d'oeuvres and select beverages

Resort properties and convention hotels often opt out of lounge access for elite members; check the specific property's benefits page before booking. EDITION, Ritz-Carlton, and Bulgari brands generally do not extend Marriott Bonvoy lounge benefits.

How to spend

The high-leverage moves. Read this before you transfer a single mile.

The smart-money plays.

Get the playbook →
  • Standard award nights - book any participating property at its current points rate. No fixed chart since 2022; pricing is fully dynamic, varying by property and by date with no category assignments.
  • 5th Night Free (Stay 5, Pay 4) - automatically applied to standard award redemptions of 5+ consecutive nights on a single reservation. The lowest-points night becomes free. No elite status required; no opt-in. Multiple "Stay 5 Pay 4" segments can stack on a 10-night booking. Award redemptions only - Cash + Points stays, Premium Rooms, Nightly Upgrade Awards, and Free Night Awards do not qualify.
  • Free Night Awards (FNAs) - issued by every Bonvoy co-brand card. Caps range from 35K to 85K points on currently-issued co-brand cards (legacy 20K and 25K caps exist on cards no longer issued to new applicants). As of March 2026, you can top off any FNA with up to 25K Bonvoy points to reach a higher property tier.
  • Cash + Points - a partial-points booking option that varies by property. Generally weaker value than a full-points stay but useful when you are short.
  • Suite Night Awards (SNAs) - Platinum-tier-and-above can earn 5 SNAs as the default Annual Choice Benefit at 50 elite nights. Used to confirm a suite upgrade in advance; clearance window is 5 days before arrival (3 days for EDITION, Ritz-Carlton, and St. Regis).
  • Outbound transfers to airlines - 30+ frequent-flyer programs at 3:1 ratio for most, with United MileagePlus offering a 10K bonus per 60K transferred (versus 5K bonus per 60K for other partners). AAdvantage, Avianca LifeMiles, and Delta SkyMiles are excluded from the transfer bonus. Air New Zealand AirPoints transfers at 200:1.
  • Free night awards from Bonvoy cards: Marriott Bonvoy credit cards can come with a Free Night Award. See the Bonvoy Boundless, Bonvoy Premier and Bonvoy Brilliant pages for what each one offers.

Tips & quirks

Resort fees, blackout dates, points expiry, the stuff nobody tells you until you've been burned once.

The fine print, decoded.

Spill the gotchas →

Earning & redeeming

  • Points expire after 24 months of inactivity. Earning points or miles (stays and co-brand card spend both earn), redeeming points, buying points or converting points to airline miles all reset the clock; gifting or transferring points between members does not. Lifetime Elite accounts are not affected today.

  • No published award chart since 2022. Pricing is fully dynamic and moves with cash rates, so there are no off peak, standard, or peak tiers to plan around. The closest thing to usable bands is the set of Free Night Award caps (see below), since an FNA books any property at or under its cap.

  • Fifth night free applies to standard award point stays, including at All Inclusive resorts. Cash and Points, Nightly Upgrade Awards, Free Night Awards, and Premium Rooms do not qualify. The lowest points night is the free one, and it can stack on stays of 10 or more nights.

  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer partnership - points transfer Bonvoy to KrisFlyer at 3:1 (5,000 bonus miles per 60,000 points) and KrisFlyer to Bonvoy at 4:3 (improved from 2:1 on April 1, 2026); benefits / status crossover available to linked members. Exact perks evolving - check official Bonvoy and KrisFlyer pages before relying on a specific benefit.

  • You can also move Bonvoy points to three non airline programs. MGM Rewards takes 10 points for 8 MGM points, with a 1,000 point minimum. Rakuten takes 3 points for 1 Rakuten Point, with a 3,000 point minimum. Starbucks Rewards takes 1,000 points for 100 Stars, with a 1,000 point minimum. Check the value before moving points.

  • Resort fees - many Marriott resorts charge a daily resort fee even on award stays. Check each property's terms before booking.

  • Many Marriott resorts charge daily resort fees even on award stays - unlike Hyatt and Hilton, which generally waive resort fees on points stays. Always check the property's terms before booking an award.

  • Aeroplan 25K requires a one-time registration (unlike the United Silver match, which auto-posts when accounts are linked). Sign up at travel-partner.marriott.com/air-canada/. Must be an active member of both Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan. Status posts within a few days, valid 12+ months, and renews automatically each year you maintain Titanium or Ambassador, no re-registration needed unless you fall out of status.

Elite status & perks

  • Suite Night Awards (SNAs) clear automatically 5 days before arrival (3 days for EDITION, Ritz-Carlton, and St. Regis). Default Annual Choice Benefit for Platinum at 50 nights if no selection is made by Feb 1 of the following year.
  • Soft landing 2026 - members who do not requalify in 2025 hold the next-tier-down status from March 2026 through February 2027. Ambassador to Titanium, Titanium to Platinum, Platinum to Gold, Gold to Silver. Whether this soft-landing policy will continue beyond the 2026 membership year has not been officially confirmed - check official Bonvoy communications before counting on it.
  • United MileagePlus partnership (RewardsPlus) confers reciprocal status: Bonvoy Titanium maps to MileagePlus Silver. Linking accounts is required.
  • Lifetime status - Lifetime Silver (5 yr Silver + 250 lifetime nights), Lifetime Gold (7 yr Gold + 400 nights), Lifetime Platinum (10 yr Platinum + 600 nights). Lifetime tiers do not include the highest annual perks of currently-earned Titanium / Ambassador.
  • 2026 elite threshold changes (effective for the 2026 status year): Titanium is 75 nights and Ambassador is 100 nights plus $23,000 of qualifying spend.
  • Unused Suite Night Awards (SNAs) roll over under a new 2026 rollover policy - a structural improvement over the old "use them or lose them" model.
  • Titanium and Ambassador upgrade confirmations now arrive up to 5 days before arrival (previously 2 days), a meaningful planning improvement for top-tier members.

Cards & free nights

  • Active Free Night Award caps (currently-issued co-brand cards): 35K, 50K, and 85K caps depending on the card. The 35K tier covers most Chase + Amex Bonvoy products (Boundless, basic Amex, Business cards); 50K is Bonvoy Bevy (Amex); 85K is Bonvoy Brilliant (Amex). Specific card terms vary - see each card page for renewal vs. spend-bonus mechanics.
  • Legacy FNA caps (cards no longer actively issued to new applicants but still held by existing cardmembers): 20K (basic Marriott Bonvoy Chase, calendar-year spend bonus), 25K (Marriott Bonvoy Premier Chase, anniversary), 85K (Ritz-Carlton Chase, anniversary).
  • March 2026: FNA top-off raised from 15K to 25K points. Any cert can be combined with up to 25K Bonvoy points to redeem at a higher property: a 35K cert reaches up to 60K, a 50K cert up to 75K, an 85K cert up to 110K. The cap raise expanded eligibility to roughly 733 additional properties.
  • Status partnership with Japan Airlines: link the two accounts and Bonvoy elites earn JAL FLY ON status points every year (5,000 at Silver up to 40,000 at Ambassador; Titanium and Ambassador reach JAL Crystal or higher). Registration required, and there is no end date.
  • Road Trip Search (app tool): Marriott's iOS app maps Bonvoy hotels along a driving route you set (start to end point), with filters for EV charging, pet-friendly, and boutique stays, and lets you book them on points. Launched for Route 66's 100th anniversary; Android not supported yet.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does Marriott Bonvoy have a fixed award chart? No. Marriott dropped the fixed award chart in 2022, and point prices are now fully dynamic and move with demand and cash rates, with no off peak, standard, or peak tiers to plan around. The sweet spot hunt happens at the search bar, not on a chart.
  • Can I top off a Marriott Free Night Award with points? Yes. As of March 2026 you can add up to 25,000 Bonvoy points to any Free Night Award to reach a higher tier, so a 35,000-point cert can book up to 60,000, a 50,000 up to 75,000, and an 85,000 up to 110,000.
  • What are the best Marriott Bonvoy sweet spots? Budget brands like Fairfield Inn, Courtyard, and Four Points often fall in the 5,000 to 17,500 point range, and the automatic fifth night free benefit on points stays can bring a five night stay at one of them to around 32,000 points total. All Inclusive resorts start around 15,000 points on lower demand dates.
  • How does the 5th night free work at Marriott? On standard award points stays the fifth night is free and the lowest-points night is the one waived, with no elite status required. It does not apply to Cash + Points, Nightly Upgrade Awards, Free Night Awards, or Premium Rooms, and it can stack on stays of 10 or more nights.
  • Do Marriott Bonvoy points expire? Yes, after 24 months with no activity. Earning points (including with a Marriott co-brand credit card), redeeming, buying points and converting points to miles all count; gifting or transferring points between members does not. Lifetime Elite accounts are not currently affected.
  • Does Marriott waive resort fees on award stays? No. Many Marriott resorts charge a daily resort fee even on award stays, unlike Hyatt and Hilton, which generally waive them on points stays. Always check the property's terms before booking.
  • Can I transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to airlines? Yes. Marriott points transfer to a wide range of airline programs at a base ratio of 3:1, and most partners add a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 points transferred. United carries an enhanced 10,000-mile bonus per 60,000 points, while American, Delta, and Avianca are flat 3:1 with no bonus.
