Copa ConnectMiles is the loyalty program of Copa Airlines, the Panama-domiciled flag carrier (NYSE: CPA, parent Copa Holdings) and Star Alliance member since June 2012. The fleet runs roughly 100-110 aircraft - all-Boeing, predominantly 737-800 and 737 MAX - operating out of PTY (Tocumen, branded the "Hub of the Americas"). Pedro Heilbron is the longest-serving major airline CEO. Notably, Copa Dreams business class on most aircraft is a recliner, not a lie-flat seat - an important caveat for the 6+ hour South America runs.

For US travelers, ConnectMiles is interesting for one reason: it still publishes a fixed partner award chart in 2026, which is rare. The two-chart structure (Copa-operated dynamic + Star Alliance partners fixed) survived the January 2025 partner-chart devaluation that raised most regional buckets 25-50%. The catch is funding the account: no major US flexible currency transfers directly. Marriott Bonvoy is the only mainstream US bridge, at 3:1 with the standard 5,000-point bonus per 60,000 transferred. The headline sweet spot for US flyers is round-trip US-Panama economy at 30,000 miles on Copa metal - solid against last-minute paid fares above $500. Lufthansa, TAP, and other Star partners price US-Europe at roughly 70,000 economy / 130,000 business one-way. Co-brand is Banco General Visa in Panama only - no US-issued co-brand.

The cheat sheet.

ConnectMiles uses two charts: Copa-operated metal moved to dynamic pricing, and Star Alliance partners remain on a published fixed chart. Sample saver pricing as of May 2026 (post-Jan-2025 partner-chart devaluation):

Route Cabin Miles
US-Panama round-trip on Copa Economy 30,000
US-South America one-way on Copa Business 50,000
Panama-Caribbean one-way on Copa Economy 20,000
Intra-South America Star partner Economy 12,500-20,000
US-Europe via Lufthansa / TAP partner Economy one-way 70,000
US-Europe via Lufthansa / TAP partner Business one-way 130,000

Verify current pricing on copaair.com - some partner buckets shifted in January 2025.

Tips & quirks

Stopover rules, surcharges, the stuff nobody tells you until you've been burned once.

The fine print, decoded.

Spill the gotchas
  • Star Alliance member since June 2012.
  • Two-chart structure - Copa-operated metal moved to dynamic; Star Alliance partner awards remain on a published fixed chart.
  • January 2025 partner-chart devaluation raised most regional buckets 25-50%.
  • Copa Dreams business class is a recliner on most aircraft, not a lie-flat seat - important caveat for premium-cabin redemptions.
  • No major US flexible currency transfers directly - not Amex, Chase, Capital One, Citi, Bilt, or Wells Fargo.
  • Marriott Bonvoy 3:1 with 5K bonus per 60K is the only mainstream US bridge.
  • Co-brand is Banco General Visa in Panama only - no US-issued co-brand card.
  • Miles expire 18 months from last activity - any earn or redeem resets the clock.
  • No fuel surcharges on Copa-operated awards - verify partner fuel surcharges (Lufthansa awards historically pass fuel surcharges).
  • Booking partner awards often requires a phone agent for many routes; web search is limited.
  • No mile pooling and no family accounts.
  • Distance-based earning on Copa metal with fare-class multipliers; partner earning per the partner chart.
  • Pedro Heilbron is the longest-serving major airline CEO.
