Hyatt

World of Hyatt is the boutique of the big hotel programs. Its footprint is smaller than Marriott's or Hilton's, around 1,400 hotels plus roughly 700 Mr & Mrs Smith boutique properties added in 2024, yet its points are widely considered among the most valuable hotel currency for US travelers. Fewer hotels, richer redemptions.

The portfolio runs from Park Hyatt and Andaz at the high end, through the all-inclusive Inclusive Collection (Hyatt Ziva, Zilara, Secrets, and Dreams), down to dependable Hyatt Place and Hyatt House for road trips, plus hundreds of Mr & Mrs Smith boutique stays in places Hyatt didn't previously reach. One big change to know: as of May 20, 2026, Hyatt replaced its old chart of off-peak, standard, and peak nights with one that now has five levels: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top. Hyatt doesn't call it dynamic pricing, but functionally that's the direction, with wider bands and a new Top rate of 75,000 points a night for its priciest hotels, up from the old ceiling of 45,000. For now only a limited set of hotels and nights have moved into the Upper and Top tiers, with broader adoption expected in the years ahead.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════ NEW CHART (effective May 20, 2026) ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Replaces the simple peak/standard/off-peak chart with five tiers: Lowest / Low / Moderate / Upper / Top. Wider bands, more dates pricing into Upper and Top.

Known anchor points:

  • Cat 8 Top: 75,000 points (up from 45,000 peak — a 67% jump at the ceiling)
  • Lowest tier floor (lowest category): 3,000 points/night

136 properties also change categories on May 20: 112 going up, 24 going down.

Sweet spots

Where your points punch above their weight.

Where this currency genuinely shines.

Show me the picks

The award chart moved from three tiers to five (Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, Top) across the same eight categories in May 2026. The good news for now: Hyatt is rolling this out gradually - only a limited number of nights at a limited set of hotels actually price into the new Upper and Top levels in 2026, with broader adoption in the years that follow. So most of these sweet spots still hold; just compare a few date ranges before you commit.

  • All-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean - Hyatt Ziva, Zilara, Secrets, and Dreams still run roughly 20,000-25,000 points/night with food, drinks, and activities included, often clearing outsized value. A handful of peak dates now price into Upper or Top, so check the calendar.

  • Aspirational Park Hyatts (Tokyo, Kyoto, Sydney) - where cash rates can top $1,500/night, these are still where points stretch furthest. At the Cat 8 ceiling the Top level now runs 75,000 points (up from the old 45,000 peak), so target lower-priced dates where you can.

  • Hidden low-category Park Hyatts (Mendoza, Chennai) - often under 10,000 points/night for genuinely nice properties. Some shifted in the 136-property category reshuffle, so reconfirm the category before booking.

  • Hyatt Place / Hyatt House on road trips - the new Lowest level is 3,000 points/night, so the floor is actually slightly better than before. 3,500-6,500 points still buys a clean room with free hot breakfast at Hyatt Place.

  • Free Night Certificates from the Chase Hyatt card - the annual Cat 1-4 cert pays back the $95 fee on a single use at most properties. Stack the second cert (after $15K spend) at high-tier Cat 4 dates and the math gets aggressive.

  • Globalist 4 PM late checkout - not a redemption, but quietly one of the most valuable Globalist benefits for transit days.

  • Brand Explorer Free Night Award ‚Äî stay at five different Hyatt brands (Park Hyatt, Andaz, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Ziva, etc.) on either a paid Eligible Rate or a redeemed Free Night Award, and Hyatt issues a free night good at any Cat 1‚Äì4 property. Valid for one year. Counts brands, not nights ‚Äî five one-night stays at five different brands hit the trigger. Each Hyatt brand is one count, so a Park Hyatt stay only credits "Park Hyatt" toward your next award once you've completed the current cycle. Great way to turn brand-curious trips into a built-in fifth night somewhere genuinely nice (think aspirational Park Hyatt at Cat 4, or a category jump on a Hyatt Place).

  • Under Canvas (glamping near US national parks): bookable through Mr & Mrs Smith ‚Üí World of Hyatt, so eligible stays earn base points and qualify for elite-night credit. Properties include ULUM Moab, The Fields of Michigan, and Bar N Ranch. Niche but excellent for park-adjacent trips where Hyatt's normal portfolio has nothing nearby.

  • The Venetian Resort Las Vegas: book through Hyatt to earn and redeem points on eligible nights at a property that isn't a Hyatt brand. One of the few ways to apply Hyatt points to a Strip stay without a transfer to MGM/Caesars.

The 4:3 cut applies immediately to new applicants (2026-06-15) and from 2026-10-01 for existing cardholders. Cash-earner Chase cards (Freedom, Ink Cash/Unlimited) reach Hyatt by pooling into a premium card first.

Lounge access

Club lounges and breakfast: who gets in.

Who gets in, who doesn't, and the carve-outs.

See the rules

World of Hyatt does not participate in any airline-style alliance, but it has its own club-lounge program at properties that have a lounge:

  • Globalists get complimentary club lounge access at participating Hyatt Regency, Grand Hyatt, and Park Hyatt properties when the lounge is open. At hotels without an open lounge, Globalists instead receive complimentary full breakfast for up to 2 adults and 2 children registered to the room.
  • Club Access Awards are earned through Milestone Rewards (selectable at the 20-night milestone), not as a tier benefit. Each award unlocks club-lounge access on a paid stay for the duration.
  • Suite upgrades do NOT automatically include club access at most US properties. If lounge access is what you're after, book a club-level room or use a Club Access Award rather than relying on the suite upgrade.
  • Guest of Honor Awards (also earned via Milestone Rewards starting at 40 nights) extend Globalist in-hotel benefits — including club access or breakfast — to friends or family, but cannot be combined with Suite Upgrade Awards or Free Night Awards on the same stay.

Many participating Mr & Mrs Smith boutique properties don't have a club-lounge concept at all — they're typically smaller, design-forward hotels — so club benefits don't apply there.

How to spend

The high-leverage moves. Read this before you transfer a single mile.

The smart-money plays.

Get the playbook
  • Standard award nights — straight points redemption based on the property's category (1-8) and the date's redemption tier
  • Points + Cash — half the points cost plus a per-night cash co-pay (varies by property)
  • Free Night Certificates — earned via Chase Hyatt cards (Cat 1-4 standard; some welcome offers and brand explorer perks unlock higher categories)
  • Suite Upgrade Awards — Globalists get 4/year, confirmable at booking on standard rates for stays up to 7 nights
  • Club Access Awards — Globalists get 2/year (at 60 nights), unlock club-lounge access on a paid stay
  • Guest of Honor Awards — Globalists get 2/year (at 60 nights); extends Globalist in-hotel benefits to a friend or family member's stay
  • Mr & Mrs Smith bookings — earn and redeem at 700+ boutique properties (some don't follow the standard category chart — pricing is dynamic)
  • Convert to Air Canada Aeroplan - 2 Hyatt points to 1 Aeroplan point (minimum 5,000, then 1,000-point increments), or redeem for a 30,000-point Aeroplan flight reward certificate. Usually a poor trade since Hyatt points are worth more as free nights, but handy for topping off an Aeroplan balance.

Tips & quirks

Resort fees, blackout dates, points expiry, the stuff nobody tells you until you've been burned once.

The fine print, decoded.

Spill the gotchas

Earning & redeeming

  • Points expire after 24 months of inactivity. Holding a World of Hyatt credit card (personal or business) keeps points active indefinitely. Once forfeited, points typically cannot be reinstated.

  • Points sharing is unusually flexible — and getting better. Historically required a paper/PDF form, with combining limited to once per 30 days. Hyatt is rolling out Digital Points Sharing in 2026, moving the process to the app and website. (Rollout timing varies by region; check the program FAQ for current availability in your region.) The "one combine per 30 days" rule may not be the whole story going forward; check the program FAQ before assuming the old limits apply. There's no fee, no relationship requirement, and combining typically resets the 24-month expiration on both accounts.

  • The new May 20, 2026 chart is dynamic pricing in disguise. Hyatt isn't using the term, but the five tiers (Lowest / Low / Moderate / Upper / Top) widen the bands and let Hyatt push more dates into Upper and Top. Cat 8 Top hits 75,000 points (up from 45,000 peak — a 67% jump). 136 properties also change categories: 112 going up, 24 going down.

  • Mr & Mrs Smith properties don't all follow the standard category chart. Some price dynamically. Check before assuming it's a deal.

  • 5-tier award chart launches May 20, 2026. The 3-tier model (Off-Peak / Standard / Peak) becomes 5 tiers: Lowest / Low / Moderate / Upper / Top. The Top tier on Cat 8 properties reaches 75,000 points/night - up to +67% from the prior 45K Cat 8 peak. The Lowest tier on Cat 1-3 properties drops 500-1,000 points/night versus prior off-peak. Net effect skews price hikes, especially at the high end.

  • 136 hotels shift category in 2026 alongside the chart change: 112 properties move up, 24 move down. About 90% of the portfolio is unchanged this year. The new 5-tier framework adds capacity for Hyatt to surface Upper / Top pricing on demand peaks without broad future category resets.

  • Gifted-award cap: 10 per calendar year per recipient (as of June 7, 2025). You can still transfer as many eligible awards as you want, but no one Member can receive more than 10 gifted awards per year. Plan ahead if you're funneling Suite Upgrades or Guest of Honor Awards to a family member.

  • Peloton: 100 Bonus Points per eligible workout at participating Hyatt hotels (in-room access to select classes where available). Trivial individually, but stacks fast on extended stays at participating properties.

  • American Airlines: dual-earn via account linking. Link your AAdvantage¬Æ and World of Hyatt accounts and earn both miles AND points on eligible activity, plus access to AA-specific Milestone Reward choices (Preferred Seat / Main Cabin Extra coupons at the 20- and 40-night milestones; Gold status at 70 nights; Platinum at 100). The link is one-time, name on both accounts must match.

Elite status & perks

  • 13-month award booking window for elites and cardholders (from June 30, 2026): Globalists, Explorists, Lifetime Globalists, and primary Hyatt co-brand cardholders can book Free Night and Points + Cash awards up to about 13 months out, a month ahead of the standard 12-month window. Discoverists and non-cardholders are excluded; eligibility is checked at booking, so a later status change does not void a confirmed reservation.
  • Some properties reclassify as "resorts" to sidestep guaranteed 4 PM late checkout. Globalist 4 PM late checkout is guaranteed at hotels but only subject to availability at resorts. Park Hyatt Tokyo (April 2026) and Park Hyatt Sydney (May 2026) relabeled themselves resort properties, removing the guarantee at those hotels - check a property's classification before relying on it.
  • Milestone Rewards (separate from tier benefits) deliver the program's most-loved perks — earned every 10 nights regardless of status:
    • 20 nights / 35K base points — pick one of: 2 Club Access Awards, 2K Next Stay Award, $25 FIND credit, or 2 American Airlines preferred-seat coupons
    • 30 nights / 50K base points — 5K bonus points or $100 FIND credit
    • 40 nights / 65K base points — Guest of Honor Award + choose: 5K bonus points, Suite Upgrade Award, or $150 FIND credit
    • 50 nights / 80K base points — 2 Suite Upgrade Awards
    • 60 nights / 100K base points — Cat 1-7 Free Night Award + 2 Guest of Honor Awards + 2 Suite Upgrade Awards
    • 70/80/90/100 nights — additional bonus points, Free Night Awards, and choice options. Suite Upgrade Awards and Club Access Awards are valid for the rest of the current calendar year plus 14 months.
  • Globalists get free parking on award stays when parking is billed to the room folio (covers both valet and self-parking where offered). If the hotel makes you pay the lot or valet directly, the benefit doesn't apply.
  • MGM Rewards reciprocity still exists (status match available, must re-match each year after Feb. 1), but the broader earn-and-redeem partnership ended September 30, 2023 — you can no longer earn Hyatt points on MGM stays or vice versa.
  • Resort/destination fees are waived on award nights for all members, and on paid nights for Globalists.
  • Lifetime Globalist threshold is 1,000,000 lifetime Base Points, no nights requirement and no "10 years at Globalist" rule (that was dropped). Bonus points (credit-card spend, transfers, elite-bonus multipliers) do not count toward the threshold — only base points earned on Hyatt stays and qualifying spend.
  • Advance-booking window for Explorists, Globalists, Lifetime Globalists, and Hyatt cardholders (starting June 30, 2026). For Free Night Awards and Points + Cash Awards booked on or after that date, those four groups get early booking access compared to other members. Hyatt-branded credit card primary cardholders qualify regardless of tier status ‚Äî so the Chase World of Hyatt card alone gets you the head start.
  • Headspace: free mindfulness + sleep exercises for World of Hyatt members ‚Äî in the Headspace app and in-room at participating hotels. Not a points play, just an unannounced member benefit most people miss.
  • MasterClass: up to 30% off an annual subscription as a World of Hyatt member. Real discount, not a coupon ‚Äî applies to the year-long plan.

Cards & free nights

  • Free Night Certificate categories vary by card and offer:
    • Chase World of Hyatt personal card: 1 Cat 1-4 cert each anniversary, plus a second Cat 1-4 cert after $15K spend in a calendar year
    • Welcome-offer certs are typically Cat 1-4
    • Free Night certs do not work at Miraval, Hyatt Zilara, or Hyatt Ziva resorts
  • Air Canada Aeroplan partnership (launched July 2026): Aeroplan points can now book World of Hyatt Free Night Awards from 25,000 Aeroplan points (Category 1-4 and 1-7). Most useful for Amex and Capital One holders, whose points cannot reach Hyatt directly; Chase and Bilt points already transfer to Hyatt at 1:1, the better route.

Aeroplan partnership (July 2026)

  • Two-way point conversions with Air Canada Aeroplan, both at 2:1. Convert World of Hyatt points to Aeroplan at 2:1 starting at 5,000 points, then in 1,000-point increments. Aeroplan Elite members can convert Aeroplan points to World of Hyatt at 2:1, minimum 500 points. You give up 2 to get 1 in either direction, so it is lossy - only convert with a specific redemption in mind.
  • Status fast-track. Aeroplan Elite members can earn World of Hyatt Globalist through a 20-night challenge within 90 days. Verified vs Hyatt newsroom, 2026-07-22.

Hyatt and Air Canada Are Now Trading Points (Read Before You Convert)

World of Hyatt and Air Canada's Aeroplan launched a partnership: convert Hyatt points to Aeroplan at 2:1, or book Hyatt free nights with Aeroplan points from 25,000. Most useful for Amex and Capital One holders, since Chase and Bilt already transfer to Hyatt directly.

World of Hyatt extended its new-hotels bonus through October 31: 500 bonus points per qualifying night at one of 36 newly opened properties worldwide. Find the list at hyatt.com/newhotelbonus.

Hyatt: 2,000 Bonus Points per 2 Nights — July 1–September 7, 2026

If you've got a few Hyatt stays lined up this summer, this one's easy: register by September 1, then earn 2,000 points for every two nights through September 7, up to 8,000 total. Award nights count, too. One catch worth knowing before you plan around it: your first stay after registering earns nothing, so it only pays off with two or more stays.
