Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is the loyalty program of Virgin Atlantic, founded by Sir Richard Branson in 1984 and the first and only UK-based SkyTeam member airline since joining the alliance in March 2023. Delta Air Lines owns 49% of Virgin Atlantic, making the Delta-VS partnership one of the deepest airline joint ventures in transatlantic aviation. Virgin Atlantic operates from London Heathrow Terminal 3 with a secondary base at Manchester (MAN), and a fleet of 43 wide-body aircraft (A350-1000, 787-9, A330-900neo, A330-300).

For US-based readers, Flying Club is the most-transferable airline currency in this batch. Virgin Points transfer 1:1 from Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou (premium cards), Bilt Rewards, and Wells Fargo Autograph Journey - six confirmed direct US transfer partners. (Some aggregators list US Bank Altitude Reserve and Bank of America Premium Rewards; neither is listed on Virgin Atlantic's own partner page as of May 2026, so treat them as not viable.)

One redemption sweet spot defines the program. ANA First Class "The Suite" US-Japan at 72,500-85,000 Virgin Points one-way (72,500 from the Western US, 85,000 from the Central and Eastern US). Taxes, fees and carrier charges apply and vary, so confirm the total with the Flying Club team before you book. Delta One from the UK or Europe to the US starts at 47,500 Virgin Points one-way off-peak (57,500 peak, more to the West Coast), though Virgin's page also lists roughly $1,000 in taxes and charges on those awards.

October 2024 brought a major program reset. Virgin Atlantic moved its own metal to dynamic pricing, replacing the old fixed VS award chart. Simultaneously introduced Saver Reward Seats - 12 guaranteed seats per flight (8 Economy, 2 Premium, 2 Upper Class) at fixed lower prices on off-peak dates. ANA and Delta partner award charts remain fixed.

What does NOT transfer to Flying Club

  • All major US transferable currencies DO transfer (Amex, Chase, Capital One, Citi premium, Bilt, Wells Fargo Autograph Journey).
  • US Bank Altitude Reserve and Bank of America Premium Rewards are listed by some aggregators but are not listed on Virgin Atlantic's official partner page.

US credit card

Virgin Atlantic has a US-issued card, the Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard from Synchrony Bank, open to eligible US applicants. You can also reach Virgin Points via flexible-currency transfer from any of the 6 confirmed partners.

Show me the picks →
  • ANA First Class to Japan from 72,500 Virgin Points: Virgin Atlantic's chart prices ANA First Class at 72,500 Virgin Points one way between the Western US and Japan, and 85,000 between the Central and Eastern US and Japan. You book through the Flying Club team, award space is limited, and taxes, fees and carrier charges apply and vary.

  • ANA Business "The Room" at 52,500-60,000 Virgin Points one-way, with taxes, fees and carrier charges that vary.

  • VS Upper Class Saver from 29,000 Virgin Points one-way (East Coast off-peak) is a standout transatlantic Business redemption. Saver seats are guaranteed (2 per flight) on every VS flight.

  • Delta domestic at 5,000 Virgin Points for short hops is one of the cheapest domestic Business class redemptions in any SkyTeam-accessible program.

  • 6 direct US transfer partners + 1:1 ratios across the board - no other airline currency aggregates points across the Amex / Chase / Capital One / Citi / Bilt / Wells Fargo ecosystem this completely.

  • Household account pools Virgin Points among up to 9 members - excellent for family / group redemptions.

Changes, Cancellations & Delays

What to do when plans move: how to change or cancel an award, the fees, and your rights when a flight is delayed.

When plans change.

Know before you call →
  • Changing an award costs GBP 70 or USD 100. Virgin charges an amendment fee of GBP 70 for changes to international flights originating in the UK, and USD 100 (or the local currency equivalent) for flights originating anywhere else. That is on top of any difference in price: move to a cheaper seat and Virgin refunds the difference in points and taxes less the fee, move to a pricier one and you pay the difference plus the fee. Name changes on a Reward Seat are never permitted once the ticket is issued, at any price.
  • Cancelling costs the same amount, and it is a separate fee. This is the one people miss. The cancellation fee sits in its own clause at the same GBP 70 in the UK and USD 100 elsewhere, so it is not the change fee being reused. Change a booking and then cancel it and you have paid twice. Cancel more than 24 hours before your outbound and you get 100 percent of your Virgin Points back, plus the full taxes, fees and carrier surcharges, less that cancellation fee.
  • The 24 hour cliff is the deadline that actually matters. Inside 24 hours of your outbound departure your points are gone and the carrier surcharges are gone with them. Only the taxes and fees come back, and the cancellation fee still comes out of that. No tier gets around it.
  • Gold gets free date changes, and only date changes. Virgin waives the date change fee for a Gold member and for every passenger on the same booking reference, which is genuinely useful if you move plans around a lot. It does not touch cancellations, route changes or cabin changes: those cost Gold the full fee like everyone else. Silver gets no waiver at all. One caution worth knowing before you rely on it, this benefit appears on a single official Virgin surface and is not listed on the public membership tiers page, so confirm it when you call.
  • Partner awards need more runway. When you change a partner award Virgin may have to request the seat from the other airline, and its own terms warn that responses can take up to 48 hours. Treat a partner change as a several-day job, not a same-afternoon one. Once travel has started, date changes and name changes on a partner award are not permitted at all. Virgin's terms are internally inconsistent about whether partner date changes carry a smaller fee than its own flights, so budget for the standard GBP 70 or USD 100 and treat anything cheaper as a happy surprise.
  • There is no no-show rule, which is not the same as no consequence. Virgin's Flying Club terms do not state what happens if you simply fail to travel. No fee is documented, and no refund is promised either, so there is nothing to plan around and no reason to gamble. Cancel before departure. You may also see it claimed that Virgin reinstates points for a flight you did not take. The clause behind that claim covers seats Virgin itself failed to honor, not passengers who failed to show.

Tips & quirks

Stopover rules, surcharges, the stuff nobody tells you until you've been burned once.

The fine print, decoded.

Spill the gotchas →
  • Virgin Points have no expiry date. They stay in your account as long as your Flying Club membership stays open and in good standing, so you can hold a balance indefinitely.
  • Household account pools Virgin Points among up to 9 members - more generous than most household pooling features. Excellent for family / group redemptions.
  • Saver Reward Seats (introduced October 2024): 12 guaranteed seats per VS flight (8 Economy, 2 Premium, 2 Upper Class) at fixed lower prices on off-peak dates. Beyond Saver inventory, VS metal moves to dynamic pricing.
  • ANA and Delta partner awards add taxes, fees and carrier charges that vary, so confirm the total with the Flying Club team before you book. Moderate surcharges on VS-operated metal awards.
  • ANA partner award chart is fixed - distance/region-based, one-way bookings allowed (unlike ANA's own program which requires round-trip for partner awards).
  • Delta-Virgin JV gives Flying Club members reciprocal benefits - Tier Points earnable on eligible Delta flights, Virgin Points redeemable on Delta metal at fixed chart rates.
  • WestJet earns Virgin Points and Tier Points (since February 17, 2026). Flying Club members earn on WestJet flights, including WestJet flights sold with a VS flight number, in the booking classes Virgin lists. Add your Flying Club number in the booking, no matter how you book. If you already booked a flight with a VS number, Virgin's Manage Booking lets you add it before you fly. For flights with a WS number, Virgin Points are shown as a percentage by booking class, from 50% for the lowest Economy classes to 150% for Business at Red status, and up to 240% for Business at Gold. Tier Points are Business 30 under 2,000 miles and 75 from 2,000 miles, Premium 20 and 50, Economy 10 and 25. Flights with a VS number use a different list of booking classes, so read Virgin's table before you count on a rate: WestJet and Flying Club.
  • Tier Points also show up on several non SkyTeam partners. Virgin's partner tables currently list Tier Points on Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand, South African Airways and ANA, besides WestJet. On each of them, Business is 30 Tier Points under 2,000 miles and 75 from 2,000 miles, and Economy is 10 and 25, in the booking classes Virgin lists. Cabin rows differ by partner (ANA First, for example, is 40 and 100), and Air New Zealand excludes some booking classes on certain routes, including San Francisco to Auckland and Los Angeles to Rarotonga, so read the partner's own table: Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand, South African Airways, ANA.
  • 6 direct US transfer partners at 1:1 is the most-connected airline currency for US credit card holders. Wells Fargo Autograph Journey added in 2026.
  • Virgin now has a US credit card: the Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard, issued by Synchrony Bank, is open to eligible US applicants and earns Virgin Points directly, another way to top up a balance without transferring from a bank program.
  • Virgin Points reach Virgin Red lifestyle ecosystem - redeem for events, experiences, hotel stays, gift cards beyond flights.
  • High Five reward is always on. Fly Virgin Atlantic in five different calendar years, not necessarily in a row, and earn 12,000 Virgin Points, then again at every further five years. Members are enrolled automatically with nothing to register, and flights back to January 1, 2021 count. You earn one stamp per calendar year by completing an eligible flight marketed and operated by Virgin Atlantic and credited to Flying Club. Codeshare and partner flights normally do not qualify. Red members also earn a 10% bonus on later qualifying flights.
  • Award changes and cancellations are two separate fees of the same size - GBP 70 for flights originating in the UK, USD 100 or local equivalent elsewhere. Gold members get date changes waived, nothing else. Full detail in the Changes section.
  • Some aggregators list US Bank Altitude Reserve and Bank of America Premium Rewards as 1:1 transfer partners to Virgin Atlantic. Neither is listed on Virgin Atlantic's official partner page, so do not rely on these.
