KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the Netherlands' flag carrier and the world's oldest airline still operating under its original name, founded in 1919. Since 2004 it's part of the Air France-KLM Group, with Transavia as the low-cost arm and Martinair Cargo handling freight. KLM's home base is Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS), one of Europe's busiest hubs. Miles earn into Flying Blue.
Lounge access
KLM operates two Crown Lounges at Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS) — one for Schengen departures, one for non-Schengen. Both offer working areas, Wi-Fi, showers, and a buffet; the non-Schengen lounge adds sleep cabins, lockers, an outside terrace, and an entertainment area, with paid extras (showers, sleep cabins) bookable through the online lounge guide.

Tips & quirks
- Air France-KLM Group (formed 2004) sits over KLM, Air France, Transavia (low-cost), and Martinair Cargo (freight). The group is a leader in intercontinental traffic departing from Europe.
- KLM = Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij (Royal Dutch Airlines). The "Royal" predicate was granted by Queen Wilhelmina on 12 September 1919.
- Schiphol-only long-haul: KLM's long-haul operation runs through Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS), making it both a strong hub-and-spoke connector for European travelers and a single point of failure during AMS disruptions.

Loyalty programs change rules, fees, transfer ratios, and award pricing all the time — sometimes without warning. We do our best to keep these pages current, but the program's own site is always the final word. Always confirm specifics directly with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines before transferring miles or booking an award. Treat anything on this page as a starting point, not a guarantee.
