Good to know before you apply
- The 60,000-point welcome bonus requires $2,000 in 3 months - that's roughly $667/month, which is a reasonable ask at this fee level, so unless your monthly spend is genuinely minimal, this one should fall into place without manufactured purchases or creative accounting in month three.
- The 2x on gas and dining has no stated cap, but it's worth noting the earn structure rewards Southwest purchases at 4x - so the card's math is built around Southwest flyers first, and the gas and dining rate is a nice supporting layer, not the headline act.
- The Complimentary Preferred Seat at Booking and the Extra Legroom Seat Upgrade are two different benefits with two different windows - the Preferred Seat you can select at booking when available, and the Extra Legroom upgrade only opens within 48 hours of departure, so if you're planning around seating, know which one you're actually counting on.
- The First Checked Bag Free and Group 5 Boarding both extend to up to 8 additional passengers on the same reservation - which means the savings math on the $229 annual fee can close fast if you ever travel with family or a group, and the Rapid Rewards number just has to be on the reservation for it to apply.
- NO shortcut to A-List status without real spend volume - the TQP earn is 2,500 points per $5,000 spent annually, so if you're eyeing this card as an A-List fast-track rather than a booster for someone already flying Southwest regularly, the math will disappoint you before it rewards you.
- The 10,000 Companion Pass qualifying points boost lands every year - it doesn't hand you a Companion Pass, it just moves the goalposts closer, and combined with the 7,500 anniversary bonus points, the card is quietly stacking your Rapid Rewards balance in ways that don't require you to book a single flight to earn them.
- The DashPass $10 quarterly non-restaurant credit runs through December 31, 2027 - it's a real offset against the annual fee if you're already a DoorDash user, but it requires an active DashPass membership and only applies to non-restaurant orders, so it's not as passive as it looks.
