Good to know before you apply
- The welcome bonus is 75,000 points after $5,000 in the first 3 months. (A limited-time 100,000-point offer ran into July 2026 but has ended.) That spend is a real ask for a $95 card, so map out your actual spend before you apply and time it around a big planned purchase rather than panic-buying gift cards in month three.
- The 3x on online groceries deliberately excludes Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs - meaning if those are where most of your grocery dollars actually go, the elevated rate is more gap-filler than workhorse, and the 1x reality check is worth knowing before you build a spend strategy around it.
- The $100 Annual Chase Travel Hotel Credit sounds like free money, and it mostly is - but it ONLY applies to hotel stays booked through Chase Travel, not direct, not Expedia, not anywhere else, so if you're someone who always books direct for status or flexibility, this benefit quietly doesn't exist for you.
- The Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver is PRIMARY coverage up to $60,000 - which is the meaningful distinction here, since primary means the card pays out first without involving your personal auto insurance, and that's genuinely better than what you'll find on a lot of cards at this fee level.
- NO foreign transaction fees - this card is completely clean to use abroad, which matters because international travel is exactly where you'd want to be earning transferable points without a 3% surcharge quietly trimming every transaction.
- The DashPass benefit is complimentary for 12 months, then auto-enrolls at the current monthly rate - the $10 monthly promo credit through December 2027 helps offset it if DoorDash is already in your rotation, but if you activate and forget, you'll be paying for a subscription that snuck up on you, so set a calendar reminder before the free year closes.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the OG travel rewards card, and the 2026 refresh made it earn harder for the same $95 fee. You get 100K points after $5K spend (an elevated, limited-time offer as of June 2026), 5x on Chase Travel, and 3x across dining, groceries, streaming, gas and EV charging, plus Airbnb and Vrbo stays. Newer perks include a $100 Chase Travel hotel credit and a Global Entry/TSA credit. Transfers are 1:1 to most partners, with one catch: World of Hyatt is now 4:3 from this card. If you're graduating from cashback, this is still your starting pistol.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver (Primary)
Decline the rental company's collision insurance and charge the entire rental to your card. Primary coverage up to $60,000 for theft and collision damage for most rentals with MSRP of $125,000 or less.
Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
Reimbursed up to $10,000 per covered traveler and $20,000 per trip for prepaid, nonrefundable travel expenses if trip is canceled or cut short by sickness, severe weather or other covered situations.
Trip Delay Reimbursement
If scheduled travel (plane, train, ship, or bus) is delayed more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay, covered for unreimbursed expenses such as meals and lodging up to $500 per covered traveler.
Baggage Delay Insurance
Reimburses up to $100 a day for up to 5 days for essential purchases like toiletries and clothing when baggage is delayed over 6 hours.

Points Do Not Expire
Chase Ultimate Rewards points do not expire as long as your account remains open. There is no limit to the number of points you can earn.
