Southwest Rapid Rewards gets new status levels on January 1, 2027. A-List becomes Silver at 35,000 tier qualifying points (TQPs) or 25 one way qualifying flights. A-List Preferred becomes Gold at 65,000 TQPs or 50 flights. A new Platinum level starts at 140,000 TQPs or 100 flights. TQPs reset every January 1. Status earned for 2027 on 2026 activity converts automatically on January 1, 2027.

  • Silver: Group 1 boarding, one free bag, a Preferred or Standard seat at booking and an Extra Legroom upgrade within 48 hours (both when available), and a 40% flight bonus
  • Gold: boards before Group 1, any seat including Extra Legroom at booking when available, two free bags, and a 60% flight bonus
  • Platinum: unlimited Companion Pass, boards before Gold, three free bags, and a 120% flight bonus

Silver rises from 25% to 40%, but Gold falls from 100% to 60%. A-List Preferred earned on 2026 activity keeps the 100% bonus through December 31, 2027.

Companion Pass qualifying points retire after December 31, 2026, so TQPs are the one currency. From 2027, 95,000 TQPs or 75 flights gets you 3 Companion Pass trips, each one way or round trip and each usable once. Platinum makes them unlimited. It stays one companion at a time, with 3 changes a year. Welcome bonuses, referral, anniversary and credit card bonus category points, and partner spend do not earn TQPs.

On fares paid without points, Rapid Rewards points per dollar of eligible base fare become 2X on Basic, 6X on Choice, 8X on Choice Preferred (down from 10X) and 10X on Choice Extra (down from 14X).

Every Rapid Rewards credit card earns 1 TQP per $1 with no cap, and debit card spend earns 1 TQP per $2. Once 130,000 TQPs have posted by December 31, 2027, primary cardmembers get a one time 10,000 TQP boost within 30 days, one per member, if the card is open and not in default. Cash advances, fees and similar spend are excluded.
