Southwest Rapid Rewards members will be able to earn and redeem points on three international airlines starting in spring 2027: Icelandair, China Airlines and Etihad Airways. That adds international flying to what a Rapid Rewards balance can be used for.
What to do now: nothing yet, since there is no exact date beyond spring 2027. Terms are still to come. Earn rates and award prices will tell you whether this is worth planning around.
Etihad is the one partner with details so far. That partnership is planned to run both ways, so Etihad Guest members will earn and redeem on Southwest as well. We covered that one separately.
For Icelandair and China Airlines, the loyalty terms have not been announced, so how earning and redeeming will work is not out yet. We will update this when it is.
