Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles is the loyalty program of Philippine Airlines (PAL Holdings; emerged from Chapter 11 late 2021), Asia's oldest airline still operating under its original name (founded 1941). The long haul fleet is the Airbus A350-1000, A350-900, Boeing 777-300ER and A330-300, with A321neo and A321ceo jets on regional routes, operating out of MNL and CEB. Richard Nuttall is president.

PAL is not a Star Alliance member and has not joined oneworld yet, but in June 2026 it signed an agreement to become oneworld's 16th member airline. The carrier was reportedly close to Star Alliance pre-2013 but did not join. The headline 2025 development for US flyers is the Alaska Airlines / Atmos Rewards partnership announced May 2025 - PAL became Alaska's 32nd global partner. Mabuhay Miles members earn miles on eligible Alaska flights, and Mileage Plan / Atmos members earn miles on eligible PAL routes. This is the program's biggest US-flyer development in years. Separately, in May 2026 Qatar Airways' Privilege Club added Philippine Airlines as a partner, so Avios holders can search and book PAL award flights directly through Privilege Club, and Mabuhay Miles and Privilege Club members can earn reciprocally across both networks.

No major US flexible currency transfers directly into Mabuhay Miles - not Amex MR, Chase UR, Capital One, Citi, Bilt, Wells Fargo, or Marriott. The Alaska/Atmos partnership opens the practical US-flyer earning and redemption path through Atmos Rewards instead. The Mabuhay zone based award chart survives in 2026, with US West Coast (LAX/SFO) to Manila at 32,000 miles one way in economy and 58,000 in business, and New York at 37,000 and 67,000.

Tips & quirks

Stopover rules, surcharges, the stuff nobody tells you until you've been burned once.

The fine print, decoded.

Spill the gotchas
  • PAL is joining oneworld (announced June 2026). PAL committed to join oneworld as its 16th member, signing a memorandum of understanding at the IATA Annual General Meeting. It is not a member yet: entry is expected to finalize around 2027 (no exact date), and Mabuhay Miles earning and redemption across oneworld carriers has not been detailed. PAL was long a non-alliance carrier, reportedly close to Star Alliance pre-2013 but never joined.
  • Alaska / Atmos Rewards partnership announced May 2025 - PAL is Alaska's 32nd global partner. The headline 2025 US-flyer development.
  • Mabuhay Miles members earn miles on eligible Alaska flights, and Atmos members earn miles on eligible PAL routes.
  • Hawaiian flyers earn and redeem on PAL via Mileage Plan number through the Atmos integration.
  • No major US flexible-currency direct transfer partner - not Amex, Chase, Capital One, Citi, Bilt, Wells Fargo, or Marriott.
  • Zone based published award chart survives in 2026 for PAL flights.
  • No alliance means no broad lounge reciprocity - bilateral patchwork only.
  • Fuel surcharges on partner awards vary - Cathay and JAL historically pass fuel surcharges; check each route.
  • Mabuhay Miles do not expire while your account stays active. PAL reviews accounts in fixed two year periods, and if an account has no activity for a whole period, its miles are forfeited on 31 January after that period ends.
  • There is no family pooling, but you can transfer miles to another Mabuhay Miles member for a fee (up to 150,000 miles a year), and you can redeem award tickets for other travelers you name as beneficiaries.
  • No US-issued co-brand card - BDO-Mabuhay Miles is a local PHP card.
  • Award redemption partners: Alaska Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Qantas. These are the only carriers you can book with Mabuhay Miles beyond PAL flights.
  • Asia's oldest airline still operating under its original name - founded 1941.
