The short version
125,000 miles is the headline. Whether $15,000 of spending fits your life is the decision.
American's premium card is offering 125,000 AAdvantage miles, and it wants $15,000 out of you in five months to get there.
- 125,000 AAdvantage miles after $15,000 in purchases in the first 5 months
- $695 annual fee. Credits include up to $500 toward American Airlines Vacations and up to $100 on inflight and Admirals Club purchases, and Loyalty Point bonuses now reach 40,000 a year.
Where those miles actually go is the partner chart. American prices its own flights dynamically now, but partner awards still come off a fixed published chart, and that gap is most of the reason to hold AAdvantage miles at all. Qatar Airways Qsuites from the US to Doha books at a set price of around 70,000 miles one way instead of whatever the cash fare happens to be that week. One catch: Qatar has been releasing fewer business seats to AAdvantage lately, so finding the seat is the hard part, not paying for it. American's own Web Specials can also drop economy awards below the standard chart, so it is worth a look before you settle for the regular price.
The catch is the spend, and it is a real one. $15,000 in five months is $3,000 a month, and falling short pays you nothing at all. The fee moved too. In the August 23, 2026 refresh this became the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Legend Mastercard and the annual fee went from $595 to $695, so the credits and the lounge membership have $100 more to justify than they did in July.
Nobody can tell you how long 125,000 stays on the table. If you fly American often enough that Admirals Club access is worth real money to you, this is your window. If you would not use the credits, a cheaper AAdvantage card is the smarter buy.
