Choice Privileges Points Sharing Starts October 1: Free, From 5,000 Points

Any Choice Privileges member can send points to any other member for free, from 5,000 up to 100,000 per transfer, on the website only. Transfers do not count as qualifying activity, so they do not extend point expiry.

Published October 6, 2026Verified

Choice Privileges members can send points to any other member, and Choice charges nothing for it. Sharing launched October 1, 2026, and the recipient does not have to be family or even a friend, only a member.

The limits that decide whether a transfer goes through:

  • 5,000 points minimum per transfer, in steps of 1,000, up to 100,000 points in a single transfer
  • 200,000 points is the most you can send in a calendar year, and 100,000 points is the most one member can receive in a calendar year
  • Both accounts must be open at least 30 days, active and in good standing
  • Website only, not by phone, with the recipient's member number, email and name entered exactly as they appear on their account, and points generally post within 24 hours

The catch is that sharing is not a qualifying activity. It does not push back a point forfeiture date, and it adds nothing to elite status or milestone rewards progress, for the sender or the recipient. Points sent to an account close to forfeiting are lost anyway unless that member completes a qualifying activity of their own before the date. A transfer tops up a balance. It does not keep an idle account alive.

There is no fee today, but Choice reserves the right to add one at any time, and it can refuse or suspend a transfer or take points back when it suspects misuse.

Say two friends planning one trip each hold part of a balance. One transfer can get the booking over the line. It is not a way to earn, since the points you send leave your own balance.
