United Miles Pooling Now Works on 40+ Partner Airlines

United has lifted the main restriction on MileagePlus miles pooling: pooled miles can now be redeemed on more than 40 partner airlines, both inside and outside Star Alliance (Lufthansa, ANA, Air Canada, Virgin Australia and more).

Pooling lets up to five MileagePlus members combine miles into a shared pot, and the pool leader decides who can redeem. A couple of timing rules still apply:

• 72 hour wait from joining a pool before members can use or contribute miles (the pool leader can contribute right away)
• 24 hour wait before contributed miles are available to spend

A few partners come with limits. For Emirates and flydubai, select flights only: you must redeem on a United Newark to Dubai flight to qualify. For Hawaiian, pooled miles work on interisland flights only.

This matters most for long haul international premium cabins, where partner awards are usually the best value, and they are now reachable with pooled miles, subject to availability.
