Frontier Miles Shake-Up: Diamond Gets Easier, Basic-Fare Earning Takes a Hit

Frontier overhauled Frontier Miles on September 1, 2026: Diamond status is easier to reach and elites/cardholders earn more, but basic-fare mileage earning was cut sharply.

Frontier overhauled Frontier Miles as of September 1, 2026. It is a win if you have elite status or the Frontier card, and a cut if you fly basic economy for the miles.

  • Diamond is easier to reach: top-tier Diamond now requires 75,000 status points, down from 100,000. Silver and Gold thresholds are unchanged.
  • Elites and cardholders earn more: on bundle fares, elite members earn 11x to 22x miles and points (Diamond at the top), and the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard adds up to 5x miles on eligible Frontier purchases.
  • The catch: mileage earning on basic fares was slashed (reports of up to roughly 90 percent less), and some benefits were trimmed. If you fly the cheapest fares for the miles, you will earn far less than before.
  • Coming in 2027: Diamond members get space-available complimentary upgrades to UpFront Plus or first class 24 hours before departure, and the free checked-bag weight limit rises from 40 to 50 pounds.

Bottom line: a solid win for loyal Frontier flyers with status or the card, and a downgrade for casual basic-fare travelers.
