Platinum holder who flies through Philadelphia or Newark? Amex has announced changes at both. The Philadelphia lounge closes for renovation on October 16 and is expected to be fully updated by the end of 2027, so a Delta Sky Club is the fallback if you fly Delta.
The better news is Newark. It has no Centurion Lounge today, so the only direction is up, and Amex has announced one in Terminal A at more than 30,000 square feet, the largest in the network, expected in 2027. That would make Amex the first card issuer with its own lounges at all three NYC area airports.
Two more are on the list. A second Heathrow lounge in Terminal 5 is expected in 2028, and the Houston Terminal D lounge is being expanded, also expected by 2028.
Meanwhile, Amex's lounge finder lists no other Amex lounge at Philadelphia or Newark. If you're flying Delta, a Delta Sky Club is an option at both, in Terminal A at EWR.
The catch is the visit count. You need a same day boarding pass on a Delta operated flight, and Main Basic fares aren't admitted. Platinum gets 10 visits a year, counted February 1 to January 31, and Delta Reserve gets 15. After that it's $50 a visit, though visits are unlimited after $75,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year. Ten goes fast if Philadelphia is your home airport.
Platinum's Priority Pass Select, once you've enrolled, adds sleep suites, subject to availability.
