Asiana Leaves Star Alliance December 16: Book Its Star Alliance Awards Before Then

If you have a Star Alliance wishlist (ANA business class, Lufthansa First, Singapore Suites), Asiana Club is one of the better ways to book it, on a fixed award chart that sometimes prices below Aeroplan or United. That door closes December 16, 2026 (11:59pm Seoul time), the last day to both book and fly a Star Alliance award on Asiana. Asiana will not honor Star Alliance partner award tickets for travel on or after December 17, even ones already issued, so the whole trip has to be finished by December 16, the day Asiana formally exits Star Alliance before joining SkyTeam under Korean Air on December 17.

The part not to panic about: your Asiana miles are safe. They convert to Korean Air SKYPASS at the merger at 1:1 for miles you earned by flying and a weaker 1:0.82 for miles from cards and hotels, and you get a full 10-year window to make that move. So there is no reason to rush a conversion. The one thing worth acting on now is booking (and flying) a Star Alliance award on Asiana before December 16. After that, Asiana's award access moves to SkyTeam, where the real value is availability on Korean Air's own flights.
