Virgin Red
Virgin Red is Virgin's free rewards club - a UK-and-US lifestyle catalog where Virgin Points you earn (or transfer in) get spent on Virgin and partner-brand treats. Think gift cards and spa days at the small end, full Virgin Voyages cruises and Virgin Hotels nights at the big end. The headline perk: Virgin Points never expire, and the same currency books Virgin Atlantic award flights once you link your Flying Club account.
What you can redeem for
Virgin Red carries 200+ rewards across a wide spread of categories:
- Gift cards and everyday treats - digital gift cards (e.g. Starbucks) and retailer vouchers at low point counts.
- Wellness and fitness - boutique class credits (Barry's), spa days, Virgin Active access.
- Experiences and days out - family attractions, dining, afternoon tea, and bucket-list activities (catalog rotates).
- Travel - Virgin Hotels stays, Virgin Atlantic Holidays packages, and Virgin Voyages cruises (cabin upgrades, partial or full sailings).
- Wine and merchandise - Virgin Wines cases and branded goods.
- Award flights - link Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and the same points book flights and upgrades.
How it works
It's a fixed-price catalog, not an auction. You browse "Spend," pick a reward, and redeem at the published Virgin Points price - small stuff starts in the low thousands of points, while cruises and hotel nights run into the tens or hundreds of thousands.
A few mechanics worth knowing:
- Points and cash don't mix on a single catalog item - you redeem with points, full stop (Virgin Atlantic Holidays packages are the exception, where points can cover part or all of a booking).
- Virgin Points are a transferable currency: you can move them in from partners and link Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Hotels The Know, and Virgin Wines Discovery so all your points show as one balance.
- Points never expire, so you can stockpile toward a bigger reward.
Who's eligible & how to access
Open to everyone 18+ who is a UK or US resident - you do not need to already be a Virgin customer. Joining is free via the website or app. No card or elite tier is required to redeem. If you do hold Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Hotels The Know, or Virgin Wines Discovery, you can link those accounts to pool points. The co-brand Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard (Synchrony, $99 annual fee) is a way to earn faster but is not required for access.
Standout examples
Specific catalog items rotate, but recent US examples give the range: a $10 Starbucks digital gift card from around 2,000 points at the low end; a Barry's class credit from about 3,500 points; Virgin Hotels nights from roughly 60,000 points; and a Central Sea Terrace cabin on a Virgin Voyages cruise from about 250,000 points. Spa days and experience-style rewards typically land in the mid-thousands to ~15,000 points. Treat any single item as a snapshot - inventory and pricing shift.
Good to know
Browse live inventory under "Spend" on virgin.com/virgin-red or the app; favorite items with the heart icon to track toward a balance. Eligibility is geo-gated to UK and US residents, and the US catalog differs from the UK one (UK-only items like Virgin Trains tickets won't apply to US members). Vouchers you buy sit in "My rewards"; physical goods (wine, merch, tickets) show under "Orders." Redemptions are generally final - check each reward's terms for any refund or change rules before you commit, since catalog redemptions usually aren't reversible. Points never expire.
Our take
Worth knowing because it's a flexible, never-expiring currency that does double duty: low-effort lifestyle treats on one end, and high-value Virgin Atlantic award flights and Virgin Voyages sailings on the other once you link Flying Club. The points-or-flights optionality is the real draw.
