Qantas is opening a second road to status that never touches a plane. Starting December 8, 2026, Qantas Points earned on the ground can add up to 140 Status Credits per Membership Year, spread across 10 categories: Credit Cards, Banking and home loans, Insurance, Car, Home utilities, Hotels and accommodation, Holidays and experiences, Everyday shopping, Retail and lifestyle, and Sustainability.

  • How a category unlocks: Credit Cards opens at 20,000 Qantas Points earned in the Membership Year. Each of the other nine opens at 1,000 points.
  • What does not count: transferred or converted card points and card bonus points, among other exclusions Qantas lists.
  • Timing: activity in the Membership Year you are in on December 8 counts, including activity from earlier in that year.
  • Lifetime status: the credits count toward lifetime status too.

The Car category is the one to read twice. Its listed partners include Avis, Budget, Uber and BP Rewards, and BP Rewards is the only fuel partner on the list. Fuel also shows up in Qantas's own program changes summary of where credits can come from.
