Korean Air and Asiana Mileage Merger Approved: Your Flight Miles Convert 1 to 1

If you have been sitting on Asiana miles wondering whether the merger was about to eat them, relax. On September 15, Korea's Fair Trade Commission gave final approval to the plan folding Asiana Club into Korean Air SKYPASS. The terms are now locked, not a proposal. The single airline arrives December 17, 2026, your miles are safe, and you are in no rush to move them.

What the approved plan does:

• Asiana miles earned by flying convert to SKYPASS at 1 to 1, with no loss.
• Miles earned from a credit card or a partner convert at 1 to 0.82, about 18 percent less.
• Your Asiana balance moves over as a tagged balance you can keep separate for up to ten years. Converting it is manual and all or nothing: move the whole thing, or leave it and decide later.
• New miles credit straight to SKYPASS after integration, and Asiana elite status maps over automatically, with former Diamond and Diamond Plus members moving into a new Morning Calm Select tier.

Where your miles came from decides whether converting costs you. Flying miles cross at full value, so waiting is free, while card and partner miles take the trim, so spend those on an Asiana award under the old chart instead of converting.

The regulator attached a real win too:

• Award usage must run more than 20 percent above the carriers' old combined level.
• Saver and bonus seat counts must stay at or above historical levels.
• Long haul saver seats to the Americas, Europe, and Oceania must hit their highest in ten years.
• All monitored for a decade.

So what is actually ticking? Not your miles. Earning on Asiana flights through Star Alliance partners ends October 15, 2026.
