Asiana Leaves Star Alliance December 16: Fly Your Star Awards by Then

Asiana Airlines exits Star Alliance on December 16, 2026, ahead of its merger with SkyTeam's Korean Air. If you use Star Alliance miles on Asiana, one deadline still matters.

• What is happening: After 23 years in Star Alliance, Asiana leaves on December 16 and merges with Korean Air the next day. Korean is a SkyTeam carrier, so SkyTeam benefits apply through the combined Korean Air network from December 17.
• Earn deadline (passed, October 15): The window to earn Star Alliance miles on Asiana-operated flights closed with flights departing October 15, 2026. If you flew Asiana on or before that date and the miles did not post, Asiana accepts missing-mileage claims through October 31, 2026.
• Redeem deadline (Dec 16): Star miles (United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan, and others) can be used for awards and upgrades on Asiana for travel through December 16, 2026, the last day to fly. Each program may set an earlier booking cutoff.
• What it means: If a Star award on Asiana was on your list (a solid way into Seoul and Asia), plan to fly it by December 16 and check your own program for an earlier booking cutoff. If you flew Asiana by October 15 and the miles are missing, file a claim by October 31.
• Down the road: Once merged, Asiana's partnerships shift toward SkyTeam, changing which miles work on those flights.

Bottom line: The earn window closed October 15. Finish any Star award on Asiana by December 16 (the last day to fly), and check your own program for an earlier booking cutoff. After that, it becomes a SkyTeam story.
