The Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Card Refresh: Up to 115,000 Points and Automatic 25K Status

Chase's Aeroplan card was offering 60,000 points before this refresh. Now it's up to 115,000, under a new name, the Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Card. The first 75,000 is a genuine step up. The last 40,000 asks a lot more of you.

• 75,000 points after $4,000 in the first 3 months, plus 40,000 more after $20,000 in the first 12 months. It's a limited time offer with no end date published
• $195 annual fee, with up to $100 a year in Air Canada statement credits, $50 each half year
• Automatic Aeroplan 25K status for the primary cardmember, no spending required, held for as long as the account is open
• 3X on Air Canada purchases (up to 5X with the 2X Air Canada gives 25K members), 3X travel, 2X dining, grocery and gas, 1X on everything else, with dining and grocery boosted to 3X through December 31, 2026

That first tier covers a business class seat to Europe in points, before taxes and fees. Aeroplan's partner chart prices business class between North America and Europe at 60,000 points one way on routes up to 4,000 miles, and economy on those shorter routes, like Boston to Dublin, is 32,500.

The 15% award discount is narrower than it sounds. It takes at least 15% off the base fare points only when each direction is flown entirely by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge or Air Canada Express and booked on aircanada.com, the Air Canada app or by phone. Partner flights don't qualify, so if your Boston to Dublin seat is on a partner airline, you pay the full chart price.

Those extra 40,000 points take $20,000 of spending in a year. If that much was already headed to a card, send it here. If you'd be stretching to get there, take the 75,000 and let the rest go.

The automatic Aeroplan 25K status goes to the primary cardmember with no spending required and lasts for as long as the account is open.
