JetBlue and United Go Live With Reciprocal Elite Perks Under Blue Sky
The JetBlue-United partnership just got more useful for loyalty members. As of May, elite members of either program get reciprocal perks when flying the other airline - priority check-in, a free checked bag, preferred seats, and same-day standby - on top of earning 5 points or miles per dollar across both carriers. Two catches worth knowing: no lounge access, and a handful of competitive routes are excluded from earning.
Why this matters
Cross-airline reciprocity like this is genuinely rare in the US market, and it makes status with either JetBlue or United stretch further. The headline perks - priority check-in and security, preferred seating, a free checked bag, same-day standby - apply when you add your frequent-flyer number on the other carrier. But manage expectations: lounge access is NOT shared, and MileagePlus members earn nothing on a set of competitive JetBlue routes (Newark to Cancun, Aruba, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Punta Cana).
JetBlue and United have switched on the loyalty half of their Blue Sky partnership. As of May 14, 2026, elite members of one program get reciprocal benefits when flying the other:
- Priority check-in and security
- Preferred seat selection (after booking)
- One free checked bag with priority handling
- Same-day standby
Both programs already let members earn and redeem across both airlines - MileagePlus members earn 5 miles per dollar on JetBlue, and TrueBlue members earn 5 points per dollar on United.
Two limits to keep in mind:
- No reciprocal lounge access - Blue Sky does not open United Clubs to JetBlue flyers, or vice versa.
- Excluded routes - MileagePlus members do not earn on certain competitive JetBlue routes (Newark to Cancun, Aruba, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Punta Cana).
